You will recall that I included a short piece about the Elizabeth Cross in the August Newsletter. The Elizabeth Cross was launched in 2009. It is granted to the next of kin of Armed Forces personnel killed on operations, or as a result of terrorism as a mark of national recognition for their loss. Read more Memorial Service 50th Anniversary Sandes Bombing & XMG AmbushThis morning our museum hosted a memorial service commemorating the 50th anniversary of the bombing at Sandes Home, Abercorn Barracks, Ballykinler on the 28th October 1974, and the later ambush at Crossmaglen on the 6th November 1974. Alongside the event, the museum has welcomed the remembrance plaque to Lance Corporal Coughlan and Private Swanick, (the two 1 DERR soldiers who lost their lives on the 28th October), to our memorial garden. The plaque, previously outside the rebuilt Sandes House in Northern Ireland, will now be permanently here at The Wardrobe.
